Planning your European Road Trip!
“There was nowhere to go but everywhere, so just keep on rolling under the stars.”
– Jack Kerouac, On The Road
Whether it’s a drive along the Amalfi coast with your best friends and the open sky or a hop, skip and a jump through continental Europe with your partner, it’s many a traveller’s dream to simply get into a car and go wherever their heart takes them. As with all journeys, though, good planning goes a long way.
Whether you’re simply mixing your road trip playlist (jamming to Justin Bieber’s “Sorry” is nothing to be ashamed of!) or choosing your destination, keeping everyone’s interests and wishes at the forefront is vital.
- How long are you going for?
- What are you going to do when you get there?
- How much money are you budgeting for each day?
Make lists of your top five destinations and see where they match up! It might not seem the most exhilarating of tasks, but it means you get to spend more time doing what you love when you arrive. (do we want to focus so much on romance? Road trips with friends were mentioned earlier)
Keep in mind that if you’re sharing the driving, it’s paramount everyone is well-rested. Taking time out to stay in a warm bed the night before a long journey and have a good breakfast makes all the difference when there’s a whole continent on the other side of the Tunnel. Consider a hotel stay in Folkestone, as close to the Tunnel as you can be, to prepare for your trip. It’ll make all the difference when you’re rolling out into sunny Calais on the other side!
Most importantly, bring a camera to capture all those moments with your loved ones you’ll never want to forget. With good planning and good company, it’ll be the journey of a lifetime.
Heading off to Europe for a break this spring? Start your drive off well-rested by getting a good night’s sleep at the Holiday Inn Express Folkestone – Channel Tunnel! We’ll set you on your way after a good night’s sleep and an Express Start Breakfast!
