Christmas markets are the perfect way to get you in the festive mood this winter. From the sparkling lights, mulled wine and merry atmosphere, there’s so much to see and do in Europe this year. Here are some of the best destinations to visit for a winter break.
Situated in Place Rihour in the Centre of Lille, you’ll find this Christmas Market hard to miss as an illuminated Ferris Wheel towers high above the square, accompanied by an 18-meter high Christmas tree. The market hosts around 80 stalls with merchants from as far as Russia, Poland and Canada ready to showcase their unique gifts. The city itself is also filled with an abundance of shops to browse around too!

Set beneath the Belfort Bell Tower in Markt, Bruges Christmas Market is filled with stalls to help you with any stocking fillers you might still need to buy. As you wander around, you’ll find Belgian chocolate and fresh waffles hard to resist as the scent fills the atmospheric town. There’s also a chance to have a go at ice skating at the market and you can climb to the top of the Bell Tower for a stunning panoramic view of the square.

The city of Luxembourg is transformed into a winter wonderland every Christmas, covering the Place d’Armes, Place de la Constitution and the Place de Paris. Whilst you browse through the range of stalls, you’ll hear festive music playing through the market bringing seasonal cheer. There’ll be a range of native food and drink available too, from Glühwäin hot wine to Gromperekichelcher to delight your taste buds.
